GP Practices in Forth Valley now have access to a General Practice Pharmacy Team provided by
the Health Board. This team, comprising Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy
Support Workers, plays a vital role in patient care and helps to support the Practices with many
key tasks regarding medicines and their use.
Our General Practice Pharmacy Team is dedicated to improving the wellbeing of patients
throughout the community working closely with the GPs, nurses and reception teams. They
focus on ensuring the safe and effective use of medications, including medicines and items for
individuals in care homes and those receiving care at home, and help with the processing of
prescriptions. Further information about what the GP Pharmacy team do can be found https://nhsforthvalley.com/health-services/know-who-to-turn-to-when-you-are-ill/your-gp-practice/
It’s important to note that this practice-based team is different from your local Community
Pharmacy Team. Community Pharmacies offer services such as treating common clinical
conditions through the Pharmacy First Service, smoking cessation support, and the provision of
emergency hormonal contraception. They are also the places where you can have your
prescription medications dispensed.
In addition to helping with the issuing of prescriptions, the General Practice Pharmacy Team
may contact you by telephone when you have been discharged from hospital to check you
understand what medication you should be taking. The team may also contact you to review
your current medication.
If you have any queries regarding your medication, please ask to speak to a member of our
General Practice Pharmacy team. If you have any queries regarding when your prescription will
be ready for collection, please contact the Community Pharmacy.
